Telefónica Deutschland continues LTE expansion offensive in July:O2 network with new LTE stations from the Baltic Sea to the Black Forest
Telefónica Deutschland continued to massively expand its LTE network in the summer month of July, connecting many holiday resorts to the fast Internet. From the Baltic Sea to the Black Forest, the company put more than 600 new LTE transmitters into operation last month. The extensive measures directly benefit O2 customers in their digital everyday lives: The quality of the O2 network has been further improved by the expansion measures in numerous German cities and communities as well as along important traffic routes. Every hour, the network receives new LTE transmitters for better LTE coverage, higher average data rates and more LTE capacities. In total, the company will install around 10,000 new LTE transmitters in its network this year.
"In our LTE expansion offensive, customer benefit comes first. Every month we continue to expand where our customers live, work and move," says Cayetano Carbajo Martín, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Telefónica Deutschland. "As a customer champion, we will continue to improve the network experience of our customers in the future".
LTE expansion in many German tourist regions
Telefónica Germany has improved LTE coverage in numerous holiday resorts and local recreation areas. To enable O2 customers to share pictures and videos of their Baltic Sea holidays at any time, the company has set up new LTE stations at Timmendorfer Strand (Ostholstein) and Ostseebad Baabe (Vorpommern-Rügen). Nature and hiking enthusiasts are also increasingly able to enjoy fast LTE in the O2 network, for example in the Black Forest (Schönwald, St. Ulrich in Bollschweil), in the Westerwald (Oberhaid), in the Harz Mountains (Falkenstein) or in the Ore Mountains (Mulda). Visitors to the "glass town" Zwiesel in the Bavarian Forest National Park will also be pleased to see two new LTE stations.
The company has also built new LTE stations in Groß Vollstedt (Naturpark Westensee) and Rethem/Aller (Tourismusregion Aller-Leine-Tal). The list also includes a very special "mountain": The Betzenberg in Kaiserslautern. In July, the company set up several new LTE stations around the Fritz Walter Stadium of the 1. FC Kaiserslautern third division team, so that football fans can enjoy a denser and better local network.
Network densification and additional capacities in cities
Parallel to the expansion of nationwide LTE coverage, Telefónica Deutschland has pushed ahead with the expansion and densification of the O2 LTE network in urban areas and in heavily frequented holiday resorts. To this end, the company increased capacities at existing LTE locations by using additional frequencies. The LTE standard was added to existing GSM/UMTS sites. As a result, local customers now have higher LTE capacities and more LTE locations available for mobile data use.
Among others, O2 customers in cities such as Berlin, Bremen, Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, Frankfurt am Main, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Hanover, Leipzig, Mannheim, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart will benefit from this improved coverage.
Improved LTE coverage along important transport routes
Telefónica Deutschland continued the expansion of LTE in the O2 network along important traffic routes in order to continuously improve the LTE coverage while driving. In recent weeks, the company has again closed numerous LTE coverage gaps along various motorways and federal highways, including the A1 motorway near Burscheid (Rheinisch-Bergischer district), the A3 near Schwarzach (Straubing-Bogen) and the A5 near Schallstadt (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald), the A45 near Drolshagen (Olpe district), the A92 near Wallersdorf (Dingolfing-Landau), the A93 near Mainburg (Kelheim) and on the B3 federal road near Schriesheim (Rhein-Neckar district), the B14 near Fellbach (Rems-Murr district), the B64 near Altenbeken (Paderborn district), the B216 near Göhrde (Lüchow-Dannenberg) and the B299 near Tacherting (Traunstein).
In addition, Telefónica Deutschland also supplied the S-Bahn main line in Munich from Rosenheimer Platz to the main station with LTE. The mobile radio standard can thus be used on the entire S-Bahn line. The company will continue the largest LTE expansion program in its history in the coming weeks and months.
