O2 Telefónica and Deutsche Telekom intensify their cooperation on fiber optic connections

O2 Telefónica and Deutsche Telekom will be working even more closely together in the area of fiber optics in future. The two companies have concluded an agreement on a new purchasing model for the marketing of fiber optic connections in Deutsche Telekom's network. This purchasing model offers O2 Telefónica the opportunity to map Deutsche Telekom's new fiber optic portfolio for its own customer contact.

Gigabit speed for over 22 million cable households

O2 is significantly expanding its gigabit fixed network coverage: From 3 May 2022, O2 will market internet speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s to over 22 million cable households. On the occasion of its 20th birthday, the core brand of O2 / Telefónica Deutschland thus demonstrates once again that it has evolved from a pure mobile communications brand to a comprehensive telecommunications brand.

Expanded cooperation in the cable fibre network:

O2 and Vodafone join forces to bring even more people into the gigabit age

Since the end of 2020, O2 has been implementing its own fixed broadband products on Vodafone Germany's cable fiber network on the basis of a wholesale agreement. At the time, the agreement was the first cable wholesale agreement in the German market and is currently exclusive to O2. As a result, the Telefónica brand reaches around 24 million households nationwide. This makes cable access a central access route for the company's "Internet for the home" offerings alongside VDSL, fiber optics and fixed-network replacement products based on mobile communications.

With immediate effect, O2 customers as well as interested new customers in numerous regions of Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony can book faster fixed network connections. To this end, O2 / Telefónica Deutschland has added another strong regional partner to its already leading internet at home availability.

Expansion of fixed-network offering:

O2 markets fixed-network tariffs on Tele Columbus cable connections

O2 is now offering its O2 my Home tariffs via Tele Columbus' 2.4 million Internet-enabled cable connections. From July 21, 2021, the O2 brand is thus expanding the network infrastructure for its fixed-network offering, which is implemented via a broad and unique technology mix of DSL, cable, fiber and 4G/5G mobile. Being already connected to the Vodafone cable network, O2 will then reach more than 26 million households with fixed-network services via cable connections through its partnership with Tele Columbus, Germany's second-largest cable network provider.

O2 reinvents the Home-Internet

O2 is attacking in the fixed network market: O2 my Home will be launched on 3 November. O2 is the first German provider to launch a tariff that applies equally to DSL, cable, fibre optics and the mobile-network-based O2 HomeSpot. The 4G-/5G router will become an integral part of O2's new home world, enabling telephony for the first time, offering customers a fixed network number - and is thus a fully-fledged fixed network replacement solution. With its new home offering, O2 is significantly simplifying tariff structures in the fixed network market and ensuring transparency and clarity in the tariff jungle.

Telefónica Germany / O2 and Deutsche Telekom expand fixed network cooperation

Telefónica Deutschland / O2 and Deutsche Telekom are extending and expanding their existing cooperation in the fixed network at an early stage. The two companies have signed a ten-year contract to this end. The contract will also enable O2 to market Telekom's fiber optic home access services (FTTH) to its customers in future. In addition, O2 will continue to use VDSL and vectoring wholesale products from Telekom.

The Munich-based company is working closely with Tele Columbus to achieve this: As part of a cooperation agreement, Telefónica Deutschland will receive long-term access to the provider's cable and fiber networks.

More broadband for O2 DSL customers:

Telefónica Deutschland to cooperate with vitroconnect and obtain fast VDSL connections in the EWE TEL network

Telefónica Deutschland is launching a partnership with vitroconnect GmbH. As a first step, Telefónica Deutschland will use the network-operator-independent platform of vitroconnect GmbH to gain access to EWE TEL GmbH’s access network. EWE TEL GmbH has a particularly strong presence in Lower Saxony, with high-performance broadband connections. With this partnership, Telefónica Deutschland is continuing to expand its position as a national fixed network provider in Germany and will be able to offer potential new customers fast VDSL connections of up to 100 Mbit/s in even more areas. It will also give many existing o2 DSL customers the option to switch to faster VDSL tariffs. The first customers have already been connected successfully.
