Cloud services are a key tool for the digital transformation of business processes. The business customer brand o2 Business of the telecommunications company o2 Telefónica and Netskope, a leading provider of security service edge (SSE) technologies, will be working together in future. The partners offer companies in Germany a customisable security solution for cloud services.

O₂ Telefónica is expanding its international network coverage for the Internet of Things (IoT) for its business customers. This is made possible by the new partnership with the IoT satellite operator OQ Technology.

O₂ Telefónica and Skylo Technologies, a leading provider of satellite-based telecommunications for the Internet of Things (IoT), have partnered for global IoT connectivity. Skylo's so-called Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN), which transmits from space, can complement networks on Earth and help fill coverage gaps. Currently, special terminals are needed to communicate with satellites. In the future, integrated 5G radio modules can seamlessly switch between terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks.

The Prinzhorn Group, one of the leading paper and packaging manufacturers in Europe, and the telecommunications provider O₂ Telefónica in cooperation with the network operator Drei Österreich have set up a modern 5G campus network at the Pitten site in Austria.

Telefónica Germany, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and the Norwegian scale-up wheel.me work together on mobile robot solutions based on state-of-the-art 5G networking and edge computing. The partners have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect. A first practical study (PoC) demonstrates the performance of 5G campus networks and edge computing in the real-time orchestration of autonomously driving robotic wheels from wheel.me.

As an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), O₂ Telefónica will in future equip every NR 1500 vacuum robot from Vorwerk subsidiary Nexaro with a Telefónica IoT SIM card. The connectivity solution from O₂ Telefónica is the prerequisite for intelligent real-time management of the autonomous vacuum robots in commercial properties.

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is now conducting research on concrete applications via a 5G campus network set up by O₂ Telefónica. For example, the scientists want to use 5G to improve the use of autonomous transport vehicles in intralogistics. Until now, such vehicles have been restricted in their range of applications due to limited data connections and response times.

IT requirements for smart cities and public administration are continuously increasing. This involves, for example, coping with increased data traffic or the seamless system integration of wireless sensors. To drive the digitalization of the public sector, Dataport is commissioning the first private 5G standalone campus network in Hamburg for its new 5G test lab.

To drive digitization forward in its own hospital, Helios Park-Klinikum Leipzig has been operating the first private 5G standalone campus network in a hospital in Germany since December 2021. The 5G standalone campus network designed and built by O₂ Telefónica acts as a digitalization turbo. With the deployment of the government-funded 5G campus network, the hospital operator expects a boost in efficiency and innovation.

O₂ Telefónica is taking the management of business customer solutions to the cloud: the telecommunications provider is launching a new cloud-based IT platform for the future-proof management and billing of its digital office and telecommunications solutions in the business customer segment (B2B). For this, the company relies on state-of-the-art software from MATRIXX, a leading provider of 5G converged charging solutions, running on the Google Cloud. Business customers benefit from near real-time billing processes and an optimized billing overview.

Together with telecommunications company Telefónica Deutschland and network supplier Ericsson, Mercedes-Benz Cars is putting in place the world's first 5G mobile network for automobile production in its "Factory 56" in Sindelfingen.

In a short interview, Cayetano Carbajo Martín, Chief Technology Officer of Telefónica Deutschland, talks about the importance of the deployment of private networks for the company and the role that telecommunications providers will play in the future.

The overburdening of city transport systems is becoming an increasing challenge. But before cities can take concrete action, they need to gather precise traffic data.
