The technology company Siemens and the telecommunications provider O₂ Telefónica are launching a partnership in Germany to advance the networking of the water industry with a new connectivity solution for customized 5G mobile networks.

Telecommunications provider O₂ Telefónica has already made significant progress in network expansion at the start of the year. In recent weeks, the company has implemented more than 1,600 measures to further increase the performance of the O₂ mobile network.

At Mobile World Congress, O₂ Telefonica in Germany announced that they have selected Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company (NASDAQ: AMZN) as cloud provider for network workloads.

Collaboration harnesses Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) for resilient, high-performance, cloud-native 5G deployment of Nokia’s Policy Controller Functions, ushering in a new era of customer experience.

Together with Ericsson, O₂ Telefónica wants to actively promote the development of open and interoperable mobile networks.

Telecommunications provider O₂ Telefónica closed the 2024 financial year with a strong operating result (EBITDA) and continued dynamic customer growth. With 824,000 net new contract connections in the reporting period, the company grew faster than the market.

Tower companies (TowerCos) Vantage Towers and TOTEM, mobile network operators O₂ Telefónica and Orange, as well as the University of Applied Sciences Saarland (htw saar) have entered into a pioneering cooperation.

O₂ Telefónica is integrating quantum technologies into its mobile network to improve performance and explore new data security standards. As the digital landscape evolves, quantum technologies are providing new methods to solve complex computational problems that are difficult for classical systems to solve, while also enabling quantum-resistant encryption.

O₂ Telefónica is creating greater flexibility in its own transport network with the so-called “whiteboxing” approach. With this new concept, the telecommunications provider ensures that the software and hardware of the numerous switching centers in the transport network – so-called IP routers – are decoupled from each other. This enables the company to remotely install vendor-independent software updates on the existing routers.

O₂ Telefónica introduces new contract tariffs for its core brand O₂. The O₂ Mobile tariff portfolio will be simplified and underpins O₂'s claim to be the value-for-money leader in the German market. On 6 November 2024, O₂'s new mobile contract tariffs will be launched across all sales channels.

For a year now, O₂ Telefónica has been offering the real 5G, also known as 5G-Standalone (5G SA) or “5G Plus”, across its entire 5G network. The rollout of the 5G network began in October 2020. Just three years later, the telecommunications provider opened access to 5G Standalone for its customers.

O₂ Telefónica has reached a milestone in the further development of 5G. By bundling four frequency bands in 5G standalone mode, the company achieved peak download speeds of more than 1.7 gigabits per second. For comparison: that is almost twice as fast as the most powerful commercial fiber-optic connections currently available.

Strong networks, low prices, high variety: Ten years after the merger of O₂ Telefónica and E-Plus on October 1, 2014, the range of services for mobile phone users in Germany has improved significantly.

O₂ Telefónica welcomes Lyca Mobile Germany as it’s newest partner on its mobile network. This further strengthens the company's position in the wholesale segment. Effective immediately, Lyca Mobile, one of the world's leading international mobile virtual network operators (MVNO), will offer its customers in Germany with mobile services via the high-performance network infrastructure of O₂ Telefónica.

Cloud services are a key tool for the digital transformation of business processes. The business customer brand o2 Business of the telecommunications company o2 Telefónica and Netskope, a leading provider of security service edge (SSE) technologies, will be working together in future. The partners offer companies in Germany a customisable security solution for cloud services.

O₂ Telefónica Deutschland and mobilezone have entered into a strategic partnership to reactivate the brand. With immediate effect, mobilezone will market postpaid tariffs at a very competitive price level under the well-known discount brand.

O₂’s private customers will now be able to book supplementary insurance using “O₂ Care”. The first instalment, “O₂ Care | Mobility”, launches on 7 August.

Telecommunications provider O₂ Telefónica continued to grow in the second quarter and increased its earnings margin. Growth was driven primarily by the strength of the core brand O₂.

O₂ Telefónica and Deutsche Telekom will be working even more closely together in the area of fiber optics in future. The two companies have concluded an agreement on a new purchasing model for the marketing of fiber optic connections in Deutsche Telekom's network. This purchasing model offers O₂ Telefónica the opportunity to map Deutsche Telekom's new fiber optic portfolio for its own customer contact.

The O₂ brand is continuing on its path of understanding the needs of its customers particularly precisely and developing suitable products. Unlike in the past, O₂ will in future talk explicitly about how the brand responds to customers' wishes - and how this can be done even better in the future. The first step is a campaign on cost transparency entitled “O₂ Pay Stop”. Representative consumer survey shows that there is a discrepancy between what customers want and what telecommunications providers promise and how they are perceived.

A mobility analysis by telecommunications provider O₂ Telefónica and analysis partner Invenium, based on a concert at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, provides insights into the composition of the “Swifties” in Germany.
