Not just on the occasion of the nationwide "Safer Internet Day 2023" O2 Telefónica is showing ways to deal with digital media more consciously and confidently.
From careless postings to digital bullying among peers - for many children and young people, the proper and safe use of the internet is far from natural. Not just on the occasion of the nationwide "Safer Internet Day 2023" O2 Telefónica is showing ways to deal with digital media more consciously and confidently. A mobile phone guide for children and young people in cooperation with the German Children's Fund provides age-appropriate tips and tricks in the digital world. The initiative "WAKE UP" is O2's way of fighting cyberbullying on the Internet together with committed partners. The age at which children enter the universe of the Internet is steadily decreasing, and so smartphones, tablets and mobile phones are playing a more and more important role in children's everyday lives. How do I set up my first smartphone? How do I behave in chats and social networks? Why is the protection of personal data on the internet so important? What is fake news and what is cyberbullying?

New edition of the user guide "Genial Digital

The user guide "Genial Digital" helps parents and children to use the internet and social media channels more consciously and gives useful age-appropriate tips on how to recognise a good source.
In order to answer these questions and many more, the German Children's Fund published a new edition of the user guide "Genial Digital" in autumn 2022 in cooperation with the Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle Multimedia-Diensteanbieter e.V. (FSM), the children's search engine fragFINN e.V. and O2 Telefónica, which helps parents and children to use the internet and social media channels more consciously and to understand its dangers. For several years, the company has been cooperating with the Children's Charity through this channel, among other things, in educating people on how to deal with dangers on the internet. For example, the magazine offers a checklist for posting pictures on social networks or gives tips on how to recognize a good source.

Setting an example against Cybermobbing together with strong partners

With the initiative "WAKE UP", O2 has been setting an example against cyberbullying for several years.
The term cyberbullying refers to insulting, excluding, threatening and (sexually) harassing a person on the internet. Perpetrators feel safe in the allegedly digital anonymity. With the initiative "WAKE UP", O2 has been setting an example against cyberbullying for several years. With expert advice from the Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle Multimedia-Diensteanbieter e.V. (FSM) (Voluntary Self-Monitoring of Multimedia Service Providers) and together with the Cybermobbing-Hilfe e.V. (Cyberbullying Help association), the YAEZ agency and other partners, the telecommunication provider is standing up strongly against digital violence. The partners promote the digital sovereignty of young people through education, workshops and practical instructions. This way, they can safely participate in the increasingly digital society and contribute to social cohesion. More about the initiative. Further information (in german)

About WakeUp!

The WakeUp! initiative offers children, young people, parents and teachers information and help on the topic of cyberbullying. For this purpose, O2 Telefónica, together with the FSM (Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle Multimedia-Diensteanbieter) and the YAEZ (Agentur für Bildungskommunikation), designed the website wakeup.jetzt. Here, the partners provide detailed information on cyberbullying and give practical tips on how to deal with humiliation and degradation on the Internet. The information offered ranges from web seminars with well-known soap actors to so-called edu-stories, entertaining short learning units. The web series is accompanied by a pedagogical concept for schools. The pedagogical content in the form of edu-stories, are an additional means to deepen the knowledge from the website.
