Expansion of fixed-network offering:O2 markets fixed-network tariffs on Tele Columbus cable connections
O2 is now offering its O2 my Home tariffs via Tele Columbus' 2.4 million Internet-enabled cable connections. From July 21, 2021, the O2 brand is thus expanding the network infrastructure for its fixed-network offering, which is implemented via a broad and unique technology mix of DSL, cable, fiber and 4G/5G mobile. Being already connected to the Vodafone cable network, O2 will then reach more than 26 million households with fixed-network services via cable connections through its partnership with Tele Columbus, Germany's second-largest cable network provider.
Tele Columbus' broadband cable infrastructure is available throughout Germany, with a significant concentration in the eastern federate states. O2's tariffs for home Internet ranges from O2 my Home M for normal users with surfing speeds of up to 50 MBit/s to XXL with up to 1 GBit/s for the more demanding. At the start of marketing on July 21, 2021, the connections in the Tele Columbus network can be booked in O2 stores and via customer service; then from the fall onwards via all O2 sales channels.
O2 with largest fixed-network coverage
While O2 is expanding and operating its modern 4G and 5G mobile network itself, the provider relies on strong partnerships in its fixed-network business. Using Deutsche Telekom's infrastructure, O2 can offer its customers DSL and, in the future, fiber optics. Through its cooperation with Vodafone and now Tele Columbus, O2 provides its customers with Internet via broadband cable. Added to this is the coverage O2 achieves via regional network operators such as EWE TEL and wilhelm.tel (optical fiber) or, more recently, the joint venture Unsere Grüne Glasfaser (UGG), which will build up to 2.2 million optical fiber connections ("FTTH" - fiber to the home) in previously underserved rural areas.
More freedom of choice in the fixed network
O2 is the first German provider to offer a fixed-network rate that applies equally to DSL, cable, fiber optics, and the mobile-based O2 HomeSpot via the O2 my Home service launched at the end of 2020. It offers all access technologies at uniform terms and conditions, broken down by bandwidth. An availability check tells customers directly which technologies and bandwidths are available at their location.
