HanseNet is now part of Telefónica

MUNICH/HAMBURG. Following the antitrust approval by the European Commission, the purchase of HanseNet has been completed now. As a result, HanseNet becomes part of Telefónica with immediate effect. Together with HanseNet, Telefónica O2 Germany will become one of the leaders in integrated telecommunications on the German market.
O2 and Alice complement each other perfectly. With Alice, O2 can pursue its strategy of integrated telecommunications faster and accelerate further growth. The winners are the customers. They benefit from the comprehensive range of mobile and fixed network services. The launch of Alice products in the first O2 shops is scheduled to start as early as in March 2010. "We welcome the employees of HanseNet", says René Schuster, the CEO of Telefónica O2 Germany. "Together, we will change the German telecommunications market. Our company stands for innovation, growth and progress."
HanseNet will continue to be managed as a separate company with headquarters in Hamburg. From there, the company will manage the DSL business under the brand Alice. "With more than 2 million customers and annual revenues of more than € 1 billion, HanseNet is one of the leading DSL providers in Germany", says René Schuster. Lutz Schüler, who has previously acted as Managing Director Marketing & Sales of Telefónica O2 Germany, is the designated CEO of HanseNet.
